Berrien Springs High School Receives Bronze Recognition from US News & World Report |
The US News & World Report’s annual ranking of America’s best high schools for 2010 includes a bronze recognition for Berrien Springs High School. The selection criteria used was developed by School Evaluation Services, a K-12 education data research business run by Standard & Poors. The research conducted reviewed 21,786 public high schools in 48 states plus the District of Columbia. A three step study analyzes the effectiveness of each school to serve all of their students well using state proficiency standards as the benchmark. The study looked at state assessment data from the 2007-08 school year. The first step of the study analyzes the performance of each school’s economically disadvantaged students compared to the state averages for similar student groups in Reading and Math. Second, the study analyzes the performance of each school’s least advantaged students (black, Hispanic and low income) compared to the state averages of similar students in the state of Michigan in Reading and Math. Schools performing above state averages for similar student groups are selected for the final step in the study. The final criteria judges schools based on college readiness performance using Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate test data as benchmarks for success. High Schools who meet the first two steps in the study receive bronze or honorable mention recognition. Seventy Five Michigan high schools were recognized as exemplary high schools. Fifty five were designated as bronze level high schools. Berrien Springs High School was one of two Berrien County high schools designated as an exemplary high school for 2010. |
